The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently launched two new online tools designed to help communities better prepare for the widespread adoption of plug-in electric vehicles (PHEVs).
The first tool is the DOE’s standardized permitting process template that can be adapted by local municipalities to develop their own residential charging station permits. A set of standardized permit guidelines will simplify the instillation and inspection process of residential charging infrastructure. The template can be found at the DOE’s Alternative Fuels and Advanced Vehicles Data Center.
The second tool the DOE released was a video titled “Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Residential Home Charging Installation,” a half-hour overview of the EV charger installation process geared toward electrical contractors and inspectors. This video can be viewed on the Clean Cities TV web site.
