Have you seen us in action over the last few months?
Since February, the MICC team has been engaging with residents and clean transportation advocates. Our strength lies in our network – we are a coalition, and all of us working together make a difference for a 21st-century transportation system.
What We’ve Been Up To
We broke bread with Detroit residents at the MICC/LISC Detroit engagement sessions, including a launch event for EV carsharing in Detroit. We also educated young people about EVs at the Downtown Boxing Gym’s Earth Week activities, participated in Take Your Child to Work Day with NFL Draft hospitality at the UTX, and contributed as a panelist at the Forth Community EV Charging Funding workshop in Chicago.
We also shared our knowledge at the Clean Cities & Communities Energy & Environmental Justice Initiative workshop in Baton Rouge, delved into best practices for board of directors with national network members, and celebrated the release of the Port Decarbonization plan with the Port of Detroit and the community. We also participated in the Propane Safety Awareness Day with MPGA.
What has all this led to?
We are helping drive funding and jobs through Michigan’s clean transportation sector. This season, listening sessions with local governments and organizations concluded to better connect residents to new or different jobs in electric automotive as the sector changes (read about MiVTTP workforce support).
We have also helped secure funding to support clean transportation in Michigan, with recent proposals to the US Clean Ports Program, Joint Office Communities Taking Charge Accelerator, US DOE Vehicle Technologies Office Technical Integration Grant Program, and more. Each of these proposals supports clean transportation projects that align with community priorities and deliver Justice40 Initiative benefits to communities impacted by energy, economic, and environmental burdens.
